GEORGETOWN, Conn. – Temple B’nai Chaim recently announced its new spiritual leader – Rabbi Rachel Bearman, who will be involved in all aspects of the synagogue.

“From my conversations with TBC members and leaders, I know that our congregation has been and continues to be a place where families and individuals come for spiritual and intellectual sustenance, a place where joy is intensified and grief is lessened by the presence of the community,” Bearman said. “I’m so excited to guide and grow with this amazing congregation.”

TBC President Dina Gumins shared Bearman’s enthusiasm.

“Rabbi Bearman brings to TBC a profound sense of spirituality, deep scholarly knowledge, and her own unique experiences,” Gumins said. “I think we’re fortunate, particularly at this juncture for TBC, to have Rabbi Bearman, with her boundless energy and enthusiasm, to lead us forward.”

Bearman originally came from Memphis, Tenn.. She was ordained at Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in Cincinnati, where she earned a master of arts in Hebrew Letters. She also has a bachelor of arts in Religious Studies from Middlebury College.

Bearman has completed rabbinic internships in Ohio and student pulpits in Indiana, and served as a student chaplain in Cincinnati and Middlebury. She has explored the nature of Reform Judaism in her writings, and discussed the importance of ethical leadership and living, among many other topics.
