FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Local reggae hero Mystic Bowie plans to spend his birthday at home — his musical home, that is.

The magnetic performer will take to the stage at Fairfield Theatre Company Saturday for his annual Mystic Bowie/Bob Marley Birthday Bash, an evening dedicated solely to the music of the two singers, whose birthdays are two days apart.

“I do consider FTC my musical home,” said Bowie, taking a few minutes away from his current tour. “I’ve been doing shows at FTC since they first opened. Both the staff and my fans that attend my shows at FTC are like my family, I know their children, their parents, their grandparents.”

Dividing his time between his native Jamaica and Norwalk, Bowie has been performing since the 1980s, entertaining audiences from New York to Japan with his vibrant, high-energy show.

Always on the go, he once performed 217 concerts in one year, with headlining appearances at the Tribal Funk Fest in Canada, the New Haven Arts and Ideas Festival and the MIMA Music Festival in Brazil.

He has independently released four studio albums, including the most recent “Sweet Jamaica” in 2012. He’s also been featured on several compilations, such as “Sharin’ in the Groove: Celebrating the Music of Phish,” “Creole Bred: Tribute to Creole & Zydeco” and “Occupy This Album: Supporting the Occupy Wall Street Movement.”

On Saturday, he’ll treat listeners to tracks from his new album, “The Best of Mystic Bowie, Vol. I.”

“The new album consists of re-mastered versions of my songs from early days and some brand new songs as well,” Bowie said.

Bowie has reason to celebrate in 2017. His upcoming Talking Dreads album — in which he gives Talking Heads songs a reggae-tinged redux — is slated for release in late spring. A fan of the band, he has toured as front man vocalist with the Talking Heads off-shoot Tom Tom Club since 1992.

A Talking Dreads tour will take him and his band through the U.S. and Canada and he’ll be squeezing in a few straight Mystic Bowie performances, too.

Bowie’s FTC performance will take place in The Warehouse, the venue’s main stage on Feb. 11. Doors open at 7 p.m. and the show starts at 7:45 p.m. Tickets are $29 general admission. For tickets, go to the FTC website .
