NORWALK, Conn. -- Quick-fingered volunteers are threading the needle this month as Christie's Quilting Boutique honors World War II veterans with a special token of appreciation.

On Saturday, May 20, Christie's Quilting Boutique partner with Connecticut's Quilts of Valor Foundation, to provide handmade red, white and blue quilts to military veterans. Darien Rowayton Bank, which has sponsored the event for the past three years, has partnered with the two organizations to help contribute the funds needed to produce the quilts.

"We are happy to help Christie's and the volunteers by donating our time and resources to this very special cause," said Kaye Leong, assistant treasurer at Darien Rowayton Bank. "We've seen some of our own employees honored as part of this program, and we can't wait to see who is presented with a quilt this year."

Two Darien residents, Pat Parlette and Bill Harrington, will be among the 12 residents receiving a quilt made by employees and volunteers of Christie's Quilting Boutique. Parlette, a volunteer at a thrift shop in Darien, graduated from the U.S. Cadet Nurse Corps in 1946. Harrington, who works in real estate in Darien was an aviation cadet in the Army Air Corps from 1942 to 1946.

Long-time Darien residents, Harrington and Parlette will each be presented with 12-foot-long American themed quilts by Norwalk's Mayor, Harry Rilling and other guests.

"Everyone receiving a quilt is more than deserving of a day of appreciation for the sacrifices they made for our country," said Leong. "I couldn't be happier for our Darien residents, who not only served our country years ago but still impact our community today."

Christie's Quilting Boutique is currently accepting financial donations to help offset the cost of the quilts. To learn more about the Quilts of Valor Foundation, visit Christie’s Quilting Boutique's website.

Darien Rowayton Bank is proud to support Christie’s Quilting Boutique and Quilts of Valor.
