Sunday started out cold, with temperatures in the 30s. But by mid-afternoon, it was closer to 50, with sunny skies making for near perfect conditions for spending the day along — or in— the water.
The state’s rivers, streams, lakes and ponds were stocked and ready, the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection announced.
"Our state trout hatcheries have been working incredibly hard to get over 370,000 rainbow, brown, tiger, and brook trout stocked, including hundreds of big broodstock over 5 pounds for you to catch," DEEP said on its Facebook page.
The trout were released this spring into 102 lakes and ponds and 200 rivers and streams throughout Connecticut, DEEP said.
The department's spring trout stocking effort began in early March and will continue through the end of May.
