What To Do In Westport This Weekend

WESTPORT, Conn. – The first annual Downtown Westport Foodie Fest kicks off this weekend. The three-day festival includes a variety of food-related events, such as a wine tasting, biergarten on the green and a film screening. Friday, Oct. 26

Halloween Spooktacular: 6 to 7:30 p.m. Kids 10 and under are invited to dress up in their Halloween costumes for a night of Halloween-inspired fun and games. Cost is $5 per person; $15 for a family of four (additional members $5 each). Westport Weston Family Y, 59 Post Road E.

Sunrise Rotary Wine Tasting (Foodie Fest event): 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Start the weekend by tasting wines from around the world. There also will be gourmet carving stations, passed hors d’oeuvres, cheese and bread. Tickets are $60 and may be purchased online, at Fairfield County Bank, 20 Compo Road S., TD Bank, 185 Main St. or from any Sunrise Rotary member. Saturday, Oct. 27

Fall Slam Seminar Series: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sit in on three different fishing seminars. The first seminar at 10 a.m. will cover fly fishing for brown trout and steel head in New York and Pennsylvania. The second, at 11:30 a.m., will focus on fishing the upper Delaware River system. At 2 p.m., learn more about fishing local rivers for striped bass. Full admission is $20 (includes a $20 Westport Outfitters gift card) or $10 per seminar. Pumpkin Carving: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Don’t make a mess in your kitchen carving pumpkins. Instead, bring the family to Earthplace and carve your pumpkins there. There is a $2 supply fee per child, plus the cost of admission: free for members, $7 for adults and $5 for seniors and children 12 and younger. Earthplace, 10 Woodside Lane.

Sun-printing Workshop: Noon to 2 p.m. Learn how to create your own one-of-a-kind tote bag, oversized T-shirt or apron using centuries-old photochemistry techniques. Reservations required. $45 per person. Cost includes instruction and supplies to make one tote, T-shirt or apron each. Terrain, 561 Post Road East.

Biergarten on the Green (Foodie Fest event): 1 to 4 p.m. Sample a variety of micro and craft beers, taste beer-infused recipes prepared by Chef Ian Knauer and enjoy the sounds of the Zany Oompah Band during this event, part of the Foodie Fest. Must be 21 or older. Cost is $35 in advance or $40 at the door. Price includes a free tasting glass and a German-inspired boxed lunch. Veterans Green, across from Town Hall, 110 Myrtle Ave.

Sunday, Oct. 28

Halloween Tales: 3 to 4:30 p.m. Get in the Halloween spirit by listening to stories about witches, ghosts and other mysterious superstitions and beliefs. For families and kids of all ages. Suggested donations of $5 per person or $15 per family. For reservations, call the Westport Historical Society at 203-222-1424. Adams Academy, 15 Morningside Drive North.

Food and Film (Foodie Fest event): 4 to 7 p.m. Catch a screening of the critically acclaimed documentary film "Jiro Dreams of Sushi" at Westport Town Hall, followed by a sake and sushi tasting across the street at the Westport Historical Society.
