The exhibit, which will hold an opening from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 18, will include works from artists Eileen Panepinto of Weston, Debra Schaffer of Ridgefield, Ellen Schiffman of Weston and Joyce Seymour of Wilton, according to a statement from the library.
Panepinto, a mixed media artist, painter and collagist who earned a bachelor of Fine Arts degree with honors in painting from the School of Visual Arts in New York City, will display mixed media paintings telling “abstract and semi-abstract narratives about experiences, places and states-of-mind,” according to exhibit organizers. She has displayed her work as part of group and individual shows in New York City and Connecticut and recently was awarded two special recognition awards.
Beginning her career as an English teacher, Schaffer eventually switched her focus to teaching sculpture, according to organizers. She began carving stone and wood and later found herself working with clay and wax. In the years since, she's produced numerous three-dimensional mixed media photo collages - several of which will be featured in the library’s exhibit. She’s shown her work in more than 20 galleries, museums and juried shows throughout her career and has won numerous awards.
A professional artist for nearly 25 years, Schiffman uses a range of traditional and experimental techniques including felting, stitching, weaving, quilting, basketry techniques and fiber manipulation, according to the library. Often working in silks, wools and handmade paper, she sometimes uses “unconventional materials” like Q-tips, Ace bandages and metal hardware.
Seymore is an artist and photographer who earned a degree in Art History at the University of Florida while working with photographer Jerry Uelsmann, according to the library. She moved to New York City after graduation, spending the next 20 years in photography departments with publications like Time, People, and Money magazines. She later earned a master of Art History degree from Hunter College and left Time Inc. to focus on her own photographic pursuits, according to organizers.
According to the library, a majority of the works on display during the exhibit will also be available for purchase with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the library.
