Danbury To Ring In 2013 With First Night Festival

DANBURY, Conn. — Music, comedy and family activities will fill the last night of the year as Danbury celebrates as 2012 turns to 2013 with its annual First Night festival .

The festival, titled "Danbury Fare," takes place downtown from 4 to 8 p.m. It will include music, children's activities, arts and crafts, and exhibitions for every age group, including magic, stilt walkers and belly dancing for kids, the festival's website says.

The hub of the festival is the vaudeville at the Palace Danbury , where comedian Buddy Flip will perform. Flip has appeared everywhere from "Sesame Street" to Comedy Central to Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Flip will be joined by the Susan King Duo and magician Ben Nemser with Cassandra.

Other artists and activities include the jazz band Afro-Semitic Experience, Adam Auslander Stilts, Creative Connections Children’s Art Exhibit, Danbury Museum Open House, ESCAPE to the Arts, DJ Jim Fairchild, Hackerspace Demos by the Danbury Innovation Center, Kerri LuBell Arts & Crafts, Mad Hatters Barbershop Chorus, Marty the Magician, Mercurial Gallery Visual Art Opening, Wendy Mitchell Black Light Puppets, Katie Nunez Face Painting, New Hope Mass Choir, Play N Trade Computer Gaming and Portuguese Traditional Games.

Each person who attends must buy a First Night Danbury button for $7.50, which provides entry to all events. The buttons can be bought at the CityCenter Danbury offices at 186 Main St. or at local businesses. A pack of 10 costs $50. For more information, call 203-792-1711 or visit its website .
