WESTPORT, Conn. — The newest store to open at the renovated Bedford Square in downtown Westport offers something that shoppers couldn't previously find in the Northeast.  The Savannah Bee Company officially opened its doors Friday.

Westport First Selectman Jim Marpe and Westport Weston Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Matthew Mandell joined founder and owner Ted Dennard and Bob Kemp, head of retail, at the ribbon cutting.

It is the Savannah Bee Company's first store outside of the South.

Dennard has been involved with beekeeping and honey production since he was in the fifth grade.

The Savannah Bee Company is internationally known for its artisanal honeys and honey-based health and beauty products.

It also has a mission to educate consumers about the wonders of the honeybee and about preserving the art of beekeeping.

The store offers daily honey tastings and an extensive health and beauty section, with luxurious products made with ingredients straight from the hive, according to the Savannah-based-company.

Savannah Bee also has four locations in Georgia, one in Florida, and two in South Carolina.
