Pinkberry Frozen Yogurt To Swirl Into Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. – Westport fans of Pinkberry frozen yogurt will soon be able to enjoy their favorite frozen treats closer to home. A franchise of the international chain is opening a store at 111 Post Road E., next to Urban Outfitters.

Franchisee Jamie Karson, who operates the Fairfield and Greenwich Pinkberry outlets, signed a lease for the 1,316-square-foot space in August and is aiming to open this fall, said Franco Fellah, executive vice president of the commercial real estate firm HK Group. The space was previously occupied by Go Figure fitness studio, which moved to 1200 Post Road E.

“I particularly like this deal because of the foot traffic it will add to that area,” said Fellah, who represented Karson on lease negotiations. “I think its presence will be a benefit to [all businesses].”

The Pinkberry in Fairfield draws about 5,000 customers a week, Fellah said. Although he can’t say the Westport location would see that same success, he said Pinkberry is a major traffic generator and he’s confident it will draw people downtown.

The upscale frozen yogurt chain, which first opened in West Hollywood, Calif., in 2005, has a large following, Fellah said. Its location next to Urban Outfitter is sure to add to the Westport location’s success, he said.

“Pinkberry and Urban Outfitters share a lot of the same demographic, so there will be great synergy there,” Fellah said. “I think it will be an extremely successful store.”

Currently, there are more than 170 Pinkberry locations worldwide, Fellah said. Its menu boasts seasonal frozen yogurt flavors and more than 30 toppings ranging from fresh seasonal fruit to candy pieces. Pinkberry also offers smoothies, fruit parfaits and fruit bowls.

The Westport location, Fellah said, will also likely be one of the new “concept” stores to offer coffee. Although there is not yet a specific opening date, he said the store may open by Thanksgiving.

While it will be the first Pinkberry store in Westport, it won't be the first frozen yogurt parlor. It will join the locally owned Top This Frozen Yogurt at 14 Post Road E. and FroyoWorld, which opened in June at 361 Post Road W.
