Westport Mourns Death of 14-Year-Old Staples Student, Boy Scout

WESTPORT, Conn. – Students at Staples High School in Westport returned from their winter break to the sad news of the death of one of their own, according to a report in the Westport News.

Wrestling team member and Boy Scout Christopher Lanni, 14, died on Wednesday, Dec 23, in at Yale-New Haven Hospital, the Westport News said.

Students and faculty observed a moment of silence in Christopher’s memory after classes resumed Monday, Jan. 4, and grief counselors will be made available to anyone who needs them, the Westport News said.

The son of Peter C. Lanni and Cornelia L. Gallo, Christopher was a freshman at Staples, held a black belt in karate, and loved to break dance, according to his obituary.

He was a member of Boy Scout Troop 39, where he achieved the rank of Life Scout.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by two sisters, Madeline and Amelia, both of Westport; his paternal grandparents, Nancy and Gerard Lanni of Deer Park, N.Y.; his maternal grandmother, Cornelia Gallo of Bronxville, N.Y.;  several aunts and uncles; and many cousins.

Arrangements were handled by the Harding Funeral Home, 210 Post Road East, Westport.

In lieu of flowers, Christopher’s family is asking that memorial donations be made to the Make a Wish Foundation, 126 Monroe Turnpike, Trumbull, CT 06611.

Services were held at St. Luke’s Church in Westport. Internment was at the Assumption Cemetery in Westport.
