33 Seniors At Staples High Named Commended Students

WESTPORT, Conn. – Principal John Dodig announced that 33 seniors at Staples High School were recently named Commended Students in the 2015 National Merit Scholarship Program.

The principal will present a Letter of Commendation from the school and the National Merit Scholarship Corp. to the Staples students who have met the high standards. They are talented in different areas – writing, singing, sports, music and more, they are in advanced and honors classes and they are involved in the community, Dodig said.

The honored students are: Noelle Adler, Joseph Badion, Alexandra Benjamin, Kelsey Bobrow, Lina Boehmer, Emma Boland, Jonah Boughton, Alexander Davis, Rachel Doran, Alexander Elias, Ryan Fanning, Kari Flicker, Reni Forer, Julian Garrison, Alyssa Gehb, Trevor Harker, Griffin Haymes, Frederick Hertan, Kan Higuchi, Griffin Lach, Daniel Landy, Monique Medina, Conrad Mera, Jacob Nadel, Cadence Neenan, Madeline Schemel, Nikhita Shankar, Jessica Shaw, Camille Shuken, Rachel Treisman, Sage Vouse, Olivia Wiener and Terri Yang.

They are among 34,000 Commended Students from all over the nation. These students are among the Top 5 percent of the 1.5 million who were entered into the 2015 competition by participating in the 2013 Preliminary SAT.

“Recognizing academically talented students plays a fundamental role in the advancement of educational excellence within our nation,” an NMSC spokesman said. “The young people recognized as Commended Students represent some of the best and brightest minds in the country. We sincerely hope this recognition will provide them with additional educational outlets and motivate them in their pursuit of academic achievement.”
