Volvo Dealer Takes the Pressure Off

Angelo Labbruzzo knows what the problem with most car dealers is, and he's quick to point out that he's not most car dealers. "People fear walking into a dealership," says Angelo, who's been selling cars at Volvo of Westport at 556 Post Road East for 18 years. "They think they're going to get grabbed and pushed into a car before they know what hit them."

The way Angelo sees it, people want to be listened to, not talked at. (As winner of the Dealer of Excellence award 10 years in a row, he must be on to something.)

"I'm not in-your-face or high-pressure," he says. "My clients leave here knowing they made the right decision." And they keep coming back - sometimes when they're not even looking for a car.

"There's one gentleman I've sold six cars to over the years," Angelo says. "He came in the other day, just wanted to socialize. Talked about his business, his son. How many people do that with their car salesman?"

Maybe it's Angelo's side job that makes him such a good ear. A former restaurant owner, he now bartends at Osianna restaurant in Fairfield. His specialty drink is a dirty martini.

"That first sip of that first drink is so important," he says. "If it tastes great, you're going to have a nice meal, a nice evening. It's the same with cars - first impressions are key."

Between bartending and selling cars, Angelo says he's gotten to know "everybody in Fairfield County." Haven't met him yet? Call 203-222-1122.
