On Dec. 29, Hoydick, who represents the 120th House District, officially submitted her letter of resignation in person at the office of Secretary of State Denise Merrill.

The resignation was effective Tuesday, Jan. 2 at 10 a.m.

She has held the spot since a special election in March 2010.

“It has been a great honor and pleasure to serve the people of the 120th District for the past seven years,” Hoydick said. “As I have pledged, I will now be focusing my full and undivided attention on my duties as mayor of this great town. We have many issues and projects of great importance to our residents and we have already begun the hard work ahead of us all.”

Hoydick also resigned her post as executive director of the Stratford Chamber of Commerce last month.

Since her election as mayor, Hoydick has spent the intervening time assuring the smooth transition of her committee and caucus leadership positions in anticipation of her resignation from the legislature.  She served as Deputy Republican Leader as well as ranking member of the Energy and Technology Committee.

Hoydick was sworn in as the third mayor of Stratford and the first woman to hold the town’s top post on Dec. 11.

Under provisions of Connecticut’s General Statutes, the vacancy will trigger a special election for Hoydick’s seat at a date to be determined by Gov. Dannel P. Malloy.

Bill Cabral, a Republican who has served on the Town Council and Board of Education, is the first to announce his candidacy to replace Hoydick, according to the Stratford Star.
