The talk-show co-hosts said Friday that three Trump aides claimed an expose on them would run in the National Enquirer. They said the story, which involved Brzezinski's daughters and her ex-husband, would run unless they called Trump to apologize for their negative coverage of him. National Enquirer publisher David Pecker is a longtime friend and ally of Trump's.

One of the aides reportedly involved is Trump's son-in-law and adviser Jared Kushner.

Trump started a Twitter firestorm after he tweeted on Thursday, "I heard poorly rated 'Morning Joe' speaks badly of me (don't watch anymore). Then how come low I.Q. Crazy Mika, along with Psycho Joe, came to Mar-a-Lago 3 nights in a row around New Year's Eve, and insisted on joining me. She was bleeding badly from a face-lift. I said no!"

The tweet was condemned by politicians on both sides of the aisle.

Scarborough said he refused to call Trump with an apology. A story ran in the Enquirer that said Scarborough buys three six-packs of beer a week, which Scarborough laughingly denied.

Scarborough and Brzezinski postponed a trip to Boston to address the allegations on Friday morning's show on MSNBC.

"I've never bought a beer in my life," Scarborough said.

Scarborough said Trump has a "disturbing" obsession with Brzezinski. In an op-ed headlined "Donald Trump is not well" in the Washington Post, the two denied Trump's claims about the visit to Mar-a-Lago and said Brzezinski did not have a facelift but had her chin tweaked.

Trump responded to the two on Twitter, dismissing their Enquirer claims as fake news.

"Watched low rated 'Morning Joe' for first time in long time," Trump tweeted. "FAKE NEWS. He called me to stop a National Enquirer article. I said no! Bad show."

Scarborough responded by saying that Trump's tweets were lies and said he has text messages from aides and phone records.

"Why do you keep lying about things that are so easily disproven? What is wrong with you?" Scarborough tweeted.

Scarborough later tweeted that he and Brzezinski have begun their vacation.
