The package would close a nearly $1 billion gap in the fiscal year that begins July 1, but the line-by-line details were not available, CTMirror said.

The newest budget plan calls for salary cuts and likely layoffs of hundreds of state workers but would scrap a controversial deferral of business tax credits, Connecticut Mirror reported.

If the budget is not passed by midnight, the Legislature would be forced to reconvene in a special session, CTMirror said.
