Alexander Edell, 36, of Cos Cob, and Melaine Arias, 22, of Brooklyn, were charged with numerous drug charges after officers arrived at the Hyatt Hotel on E. Putnam Avenue around 10:45 a.m. Tuesday and found narcotics and drug paraphernalia in plain view in the hotel room, said Greenwich Police Lt. John Slusarz.

According to police, Arias met them outside the room and said she had been physically assaulted by Edell and that he had broken down a door between two adjoining rooms and prevented her from calling 911, Slusarz said.

During the incident, Arias began stuffing some of the drugs, which included pot, Xanax, and Ketamine, in her mouth as officers were taking photos of the evidence and while handcuffed, Slusarz said.

Officers had to force her to spit them out as she lunged and resisted, he added.

Arias was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of pot, possession of a controlled substance, tampering with evidence, interfering/resisting police.

Edell was charged with operation of a drug factory, possession of a controlled substance, criminal mischief, interfering with an emergency call, assault, and other drug charges.

She is being held on $500 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on Aug. 15. Edell is being held on $500,000 bond.
