WESTPORT, Conn. — Two New Jersey men were charged with drug possession in Westport after they were stopped on a traffic violation and found in possession of more than 100 packs of heroin Monday evening, police said.
Shortly after 5 p.m., Westport Police Officer James Loomer and his K9 partner, police service dog Koda, stopped a vehicle on Sherwood Island Connector for failing to stop at a stop sign, police said. During the stop, Koda helped to uncover the drugs, the arrest report said.
In addition to the heroin, Loomer and backup officers seized a large amount of cash, the report said.
The driver, Cole Dunn Hamer, 28, and passenger Frank Veglatte Jr., 29, were arrested. Both were charged possession of narcotics with intent to sell, conspiracy to sell narcotics, possession of narcotics and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Hamer and Veglatte were held on $5,000 bond each and scheduled to appear at Norwalk Superior Court on Tuesday.
