WESTPORT, Conn. — A Fairfield man was arrested Dec. 6 in connection with a single-car crash on Post Road East in June, police said.
Joshua Flaherty, 37, of Fairfield Beach Road, was charged with operating under the influence of drugs/alcohol-inhalant/huffing, reckless driving and tampering with or fabricating physical evidence, police said.
On June 19, officers were dispatched to a single-car crash involving a vehicle striking a utility pole at the intersection of Post Road East and Hillspoint Road.
The vehicle sustained heavy front-end damage and the driver, later identified as Flaherty, displayed some signs of being under the influence, according to police.
Officers learned Flaherty had discarded a bag at a nearby gas station and it was found to contain a cold can of compressed air, police said.
An arrest warrant was later granted for Flaherty for operating under the influence of an inhalant.
On Dec. 6, Connecticut State Police contacted Westport police to say they had Flaherty in custody.
He was unable to post his $5,000 court-set bond and was sent to Norwalk court for arraignment that morning.
