Sara Bosill-Russell, 35, of Bridgeport, was charged with 273 counts of illegally obtaining a controlled substance via fraud. Her husband Aran Russell, 34, of Bridgeport was charged with 70 counts of conspiracy to illegally obtain a controlled substance via fraud. They each posted $20,000 bonds and were ordered to appear in court on Oct. 2.
Stacey Friedman, 52, of Fairfield was charged with six counts of conspiracy to illegally obtain a controlled substance via fraud and one count of false statement. She surrendered herself to Westport police and was released on a promise to appear in court on Oct. 3.
The arrests are the result of an investigation conducted by Westport police, the federal Drug Enforcement Administration and the Connecticut State Drug Control Division.
The investigation was launched in July after police received information that Bosill-Russell, an employee of a Westport medical office, was phoning in prescription orders to area pharmacies posing as a medical doctor, according to police.
She also used prescription pads from the office to write prescriptions for Schedule III and Schedule II narcotics for herself and others, police said. Following the investigation, arrest warrants were obtained and the three were arrested Tuesday.
