West Haven Man Faces Drug Charge After Westport Traffic Stop

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A 27-year-old West Haven man is facing a drug possession charge after Westport police stopped his car and found him with cocaine, police said.

Brian Melendez is due back in court June 13 on the possession of narcotics charge, police said. Westport police stopped the car he was driving June 1 on the Sherwood Island Connector because one of the headlights was out, police said.

Officers smelled marijuana then searched the car and found a baggie with the white powdery substance under the driver's seat, police said. It tested positive for cocaine, police said.

He was released after posting $500, pending the next court date, police said.
