Jheison Callecastro is charged with leading police on a high-speed, 26-mile chase on Interstate 95 after striking a pedestrian on a White Plains sidewalk, according to the Advocate, which reported that the 21-year-old claims he “just drank too much.”

The pursuit went from the Connecticut border up to Norwalk, where he exited I-95 and re-entered the southbound side, police said. Connecticut State Police deployed stop sticks in three places, until he crashed into a cruiser near Exit 3 in Greenwich, with his tow truck bursting into flames, police said.

No one was injured, but a state trooper had to jump to safety on the highway median, police said.

Callecastro, who faces charges of criminal mischief, attempted assault on a police officer, attempted second-degree assault with a motor vehicle and engaging police in pursuit, was ordered held Monday on $100,000 bond and taken to the Bridgeport Correctional Center, according to the Advocate.

Callecastro, a tow truck driver, apparently believed New York authorities would not follow him into Connecticut when White Plains police spotted him driving over the center yellow lines on East Post Road and then double-park while facing the wrong direction, according to the Advocate, which cited the police report written after Callecastro's arrest.
