Shannon Schaeffer, 37, of 47 Selleck St., was charged with interfering with an officer, operating while under the influence, possession of a controlled substance, possession of narcotics and operating without a license.

The incident began when officers were called to a Connecticut Avenue gas station at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on a report of a person passed out behind the wheel of a car at the pumps, police said.

The woman roused herself and drove away before officers arrived, police said. But her vehicle was discovered with the engine running in a nearby parking lot, police said.

Schaeffer’s speech was slurred, but officers didn’t detect any odor of alcohol, police said. She failed the field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest, police said.

Officers discovered what they allege was two baggies containing a small amount of cocaine, police said, along with a pill bottle containing four Clonazepam pills, which is used to treat seizures and panic disorders.

While she was being processed at police headquarters, she grabbed the pill bottle and quickly swallowed the pills, police said.

She was taken to Norwalk Hospital for observation and later released on $10,000 bond. She was scheduled to appear in court March 23.
