Officers from the Greenwich Police Department received a report that a vehicle had struck an Edgewater Drive mailbox shortly after 1:45 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 12. A vehicle matching the description of the one that stuck the mailbox was tracked down less than a quarter mile away on Lockwood Drive.

The driver - later identified as West Haven resident Brian Dorsi, 32 - was found inside the running vehicle, unconscious, unresponsive and slumped over the steering wheel. Police noted that the vehicle also had fresh front-end damage.

Upon rousing Dorsi, it was determined that he was under the influence of a narcotic or alcohol. He proceeded to fail multiple Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and an investigation found that Dorsi had been involved in an earlier crash, where he attempted to evade responsibility.

Dorsi was arrested and charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol or narcotics, evading responsibility, failure to maintain proper lane and possession of narcotics. Following his arraignment, Dorsi was released on $500 bond and he is due back in Stamford Superior Court on Sept. 26 to answer the charges.
