FedEx Truck Catches Fire On I-95 In Westport

WESTPORT, Conn. -- A FedEx tractor trailer burst into flames on I-95 north near exit 18 in Westport early Thursday morning, according to the Westport Fire Department.

Westport fire officials said the fire started near a rear tire, which exploded, causing the fire to spread to the rest of the truck.

The incident was reported shortly before 5:30 a.m. Thursday. The truck's rear tire exploded and the fire quickly extended to the trailer portion of the vehicle, fire officials said. The driver of the truck was notified of the fire by another truck operator via CB radio, said the Westport Fire Department.

The Westport Fire Department, assisted by the Fairfield Fire Department, extinguished the fire and removed packages from the trailer to make sure the fire was extinguished, fire officials said.
