A caregiver was arrested for identity theft and other charges after forging more than $11,000 in checks from the woman she cared for.

Vilma Marroquin-Enrriquez, 45, of the Bronx, turned herself in on a warrant Wednesday at Westport Police Headquarters following an investigation into the thefts, said Westport Police.

The 93-year-old victim reported the thefts to police after she was altered to suspicious activity on her account by her financial advisor who said someone was writing checks from her checking account and cashing without her knowledge, police said.

The checks ranged from a couple of hundred dollars to $3,000 dollars. Investigators learned six checks, totaling over $11,000 were forged and fraudulently drawn against the account, police said.

Police said the checks were endorsed by Marroquin-Enrriquez or her significant other. Other checks were given to third parties by Marroquin-Enrriquez as payment for other debts.

Marroquin-Enrriquez was charged with first-degree identity theft, second-degree larceny, and third-degree forgery. She was released after posting $75,000 bond.

She is scheduled to appear in Norwalk Superior Court on Friday, Oct. 12.
