Officials with the Weston Public Schools sent out a letter to parents after they were warned by police about the sightings. The bobcat or cats were seen near the lower end of the Hurlbutt Elementary School and the Weston Intermediate School.
The town's animal control officer, Mark Harper, who surveyed the area on Tuesday, said he plans to put up game cameras to try and locate the animals.
If found, he then will ask the state for permission to "live trap," the animals and move them out of the area.
"Bobcats are thriving and expanding rapidly in the state," he said. "The state currently has a program where they are trapping them and putting a tracking collar on them in order to discover the migration habits."
The schools, which had already canceled recess due to the extreme heat, said in a letter to parents that children will be kept inside until next week.
"I personally believe this situation is being overblown," Harper said. "They (Bobcats) can be found all over Weston and move frequently."
The schools said in the letter, they are working with police and will evaluate the issue daily.
