With hundreds of downed trees and numerous road closures, more than 55,000 Eversource customers in Connecticut remain without power as crews continue battling the Nor’easter at several hundred active outages, affecting 4 percent of residents in the state.
As of 4:30 p.m. on Friday afternoon, crews were dealing with hundreds of active outages, which are affecting 55,478 customers in the state as wind gusts continue to whip at up to 60 mph in the area.
In Connecticut, Clinton (3,395 customers affected), Stamford (2,100), Ridgefield (1,709), Danbury (1,520), Bristol (1,465) and East Lyme (1,126) were among the areas hit hardest by the storm.
“The high winds from this storm are causing significant damage throughout the region and to our system, with tree limbs falling onto electric lines and equipment,” Eversource Vice President of Electric Operations Mike Hayhurst said. “We realize being without power for any length of time can be difficult. We strive to always be there for our customers when they need us and we remain focused on restoring service to all of those affected.”
According to the National Weather Service, winds are expected to reach up to 60 mph, with a mix of snow and rain in the area over the afternoon. Several inches of snow is expected to potentially accumulate, mainly in Northern Fairfield, before the storm winds down overnight.
