WESTPORT, Conn. Although we still have about 55 percent of the town still without power almost 6,900 customers Connecticut Light & Power is making slow but steady progress in getting everyone back on line. At one point we had 77 percent of the town in the dark.
Everyone wants to know how long ... and the best answer is count on days or a week or more. Obviously if it can be done sooner it will. But we are among hundreds of thousands in the state without power.
Since Irene, we have been able to restore most of the downtown area, including the library, as well as other areas around town. And for those who don't know, the library and senior center are great place to use WiFi and charge cells phones and computers.
We are very much aware of the issues regarding development of mold at places were there had been water and have stressed with CL&P the need to give these areas special attention. Special attention is also being given to the schools, which we hope will open for students on Wednesday, as well as clearing school bus routes.
