The heat index value -- or how hot it really feels -- is expected to hit 108 on Friday, making it the hottest day in a weeklong heat wave, the weather service said.
The hazard is the high temperatures -- in the lower 90s -- combined with high humidity from dewpoints in the lower 70s.
People who are outside in the heat could suffer fatigue, sunstroke, muscle cramps and heat exhaustion and/or heat stroke.
Take extra precautions if work or spend time outside:
- Reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening.
- Wear lightweight and light-colored clothing.
- Drink plenty of water.
- Take frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments.
- Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool or shaded location.
