Breaking News: Man Exposes Himself To Woman At Greenwich Public Library

Former Resident and World Traveler Dies

Former Westport resident, entrepreneur and world traveler Dale Alden Woodruff, of Alstead, N.H., died Aug. 16 at the Christian Science Benevolent Home in Chestnut Hill, Mass. She was 73.

Born July 17, 1937, in New London to the late Albert C. and Dorothy Alden (Jones) Woodruff Jr., Woodruff grew up in Larchmont, N.Y., where she attended Walnut Hill Academy. She graduated from Connecticut College in 1959 with a bachelor's degree in history.

For 20 years, Westport was her home. And Westport is where she founded, owned and operated Travel Express for many years. A lifelong summer resident of Alstead, she moved to the town permanently in 2004.

With a passion for seeing the world, Dale traveled extensively, to Southeast Asia in particular and lived in Cambodia for 10 years. She also enjoyed paddle tennis and swimming and was an avid knitter.

She was a member of the American Association of University Women in Keene, N.H., and was active in the New Hampshire Democratic Party, serving as chairwoman of the Alstead Democrats.

She was a lifelong member of the Christian Science Mother Church in Boston, was a member of the First Church of Christ Science in Keene and was active in the Third Congregational Church in Alstead.

She is survived by two daughters, Julia Hogan and her husband David, and Suzanna Fiske, all of Alstead; four grandchildren; and former husbands Edward B. Fiske and Samnong Kong.

A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m. Sept. 3 at the West Cemetery on Route 123 in Alstead.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Chestnut Hill Benevolent Association, 910 Boylston St., Chestnut Hill, MA 02436.
