Experts To Speak On Cyber Crimes, Hacking At Y's Men Of Westport/Weston

WESTPORT, Conn. — Two experts in cyber crime, hacking, identity theft and cyber fraud will speak to the Y's Men of Westport/Weston this month with an emphasis on how to avoid becoming a victim.

The Y's Men of Westport/Weston will host speaker Vanessa Richards, Assistant U.S. Attorney in the District of Connecticut, in an upcoming event. The meeting will be at Saugatuck Congregational Church.

One speaker will be Vanessa Richards, assistant U.S. attorney in Connecticut and coordinator of the computer hacking and intellectual property (CHIP) office.  

She will be joined by U.S. Postal Service Inspector Jeremy S. Tendler, a specialist in cyber-enabled and identity theft crimes.

The talk will be at the Saugatuck Congregational Church at 245 Post Road E., Westport, on Jan. 26 at 10 a.m. 

Richards is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania Law School and Barnard College. 

Before being named an assistant U.S. attorney, she clerked for U.S. District Judge William Yohn Jr., in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, worked in private practice and served as an assistant district attorney for the district attorney of New York County in Manhattan.

Tendler began his career at Chase Manhattan Bank in information technology. He joined the IRS, where he became a criminal investigator working on cases from tax evasion to money laundering to cyber crime. He joined the USPS last year, where he is identity theft coordinator and the cyber-crimes coordinator for the New England region.

Y's Men of Westport/Weston is an organization of retired and semi-retired men with a continued interest in activity, fellowship, learning and community service.
