Victoria McGrath, 23, and her college roommate died along with two men from Canada, who had rented the sports car, NBC News said.

All four, who had been drinking before the crash, were thrown from the two-seat yellow Ferrari 458 Spider , Dubai's chief traffic prosecutor Salah Bu Farousha Al Falasi told NBC News.

Cody Nixon, a boxer, and James Michael, who was driving the car, were killed along with McGrath and Priscilla Perez Torres, McGrath's roommate at Northeastern University, NBC News said.

Earlier, Nixon had posted a photograph on Instagram of himself with the car, writing, "Just landed into Dubai picked up the Ferrari! Don't worry I won't speed ;)"

McGrath had suffered leg injuries in the terror bombing near the finish line of the Boston Marathon on April 15, 2013. Photos of her being carried from the scene by a first responder became iconic moments of that event. Rescuers tied a tourniquet on her leg, stemming the bleeding after she was hit in the leg by an inch-long piece of shrapnel.

McGrath and Torres were members of the Class of 2016 at Northeastern.

"Victoria and Priscilla were vibrant, beloved members of our community, and their passing leaves a grievous absence in our community and in our hearts. This is a heartbreaking loss to their families, friends, and to all of us in the Northeastern family,” Northeastern University President Joseph E. Aoun said in a statement.

Weston Superintendent Colleen Palmer said the local community was mourning the death of McGrath, who graduated from Weston High in 2011.

"Our school community is profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of Victoria McGrath," Palmer said in a statement Monday. "She was a compassionate, accomplished, and worldly young woman. Our thoughts are with Victoria’s family and friends, and we offer them our deepest condolences."

Her parents, Jill and Jim McGrath, said she was motivated by "life, charity and caring for others. ... In recent years, she had spent her time helping homecoming American veterans who were recovering from trauma of their own," they said. "Victoria’s voice was one that contained rare empathy, which comforted and motivated many people."

Her family called for memorial donations to Four Block, a nonprofit organization that helps transitioning veterans.
