Connecticut Gas Prices Rise, But Remain Below Last Year

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- Connecticut's gas prices have risen to become the eighth highest in the nation week, according to AAA Northeast.

The average gas price has risen 7 cents from last week to $2.24 and 26 cents from this time last month. Average prices across the state are still 33 cents lower than they were at this time last year, according to AAA.

The Nutmeg State's price of gas was the tenth highest in the nation the previous four weeks. 

Nationally, the average gas price is $2.11, which is 14 cents higher than last month but 34 cents lower than last year. 

The AAA's weekly survey of prices in Connecticut's four regional areas is as follows:

  • Greater Bridgeport/Stamford $2.32 
  • New Haven/Meriden $2.22 
  • Greater Hartford $2.22 
  • New London/Norwich $2.22 

AAA reports that fuel costs are on the rise due to high demand and declining refinery production.

Gas prices in California and Hawaii are the highest in the nation at $2.79 and $2.61, respectively. Mississippi, Louisiana and South Carolina are the states with the lowest prices at $1.89.
