WESTPORT, Conn. — The Westport Sunrise Rotary Club's Charitable Giving Committee is now accepting grant applications for 2016.
Last year, the club awarded grants to 37 nonprofit organizations actively involved in Westport, Norwalk, Darien and Bridgeport.
"Rotary members offer their talent, time and resources to assist local social services organizations here and in countries around the world," said Gene Cederbaum, chair of the committee and a local attorney. "Recipients last year included organizations serving children and young adults, providing housing for the homeless, meeting the transportation needs of seniors, assisting those with learning disabilities, coping with chronic illnesses, recovering from cancer or in recovery following surgery, and those in need of fuel assistance."
Grants of $500 to $2,500 are awarded to area non-profits in which club members are actively involved and in which funding is used primarily for program needs rather than administrative or overhead expenses.
“In these times non-profits are called upon to assist so frequently and in so many areas that the need for outside support continues to grow. In this environment Sunrise Rotary is, unfortunately, unable to meet the needs of some very deserving organization,“ Cederbaum said
To request an application, organizations should send an e-mail to firstname.lastname@example.org. They will be directed to a link to the on-line application form and to instructions for its completion.
All applications are to be submitted electronically and must received, with all supporting documentation, by March 18. Committee review will be completed by early May, and notification letters will be sent to each applicant.
