Chalfant was chosen to be a beneficiary of the new roof by the The Santa Klaus Project. Larsen, a roofing contractor from Lebanon, Conn., started the project, which provides new roofs to veterans and other deserving people and organizations.

Chalfant was nominated for this project by his granddaughter Christine, who met a member of Larsen’s team in a Starbucks in upstate Connecticut.

Westport firefighters and the VFW worked with Klaus to make this project a reality. Chalfant’s son Tim is a retired Westport firefighter, and so the project was immediately embraced by the Westport Fire Department.

First Selectman Jim Marpe was advised of the project and honored Chalfant with a proclamation from Westport for his service to the country and the Westport community.
