The annual “Penguin Plunge” is set for Saturday, March 25 at Compo Beach.

Similar “plunges” will take place at five other beaches and lakes around the state.

It will raise money for Special Olympics Connecticut, which provides year-round training for 13,000 athletes who take part in 27 different sports.

Penguins can compete as teams or individuals.

They need to raise a minimum of $100 to participate in the plunge.

Awards will be given to top fundraisers and for best costumes.

Penguins must be at least 8 years old on the day of the event to participate.

Those that are too “chicken” to plunge can form a “chicken coop” to raise pledges and receive incentive prizes.

They get to hang out in the “Chicken Coop” staying warm -- and dry! -- while they cheer on the brave Penguins.

All “chickens” under the age of 8 must be accompanied by an adult to be a part of the event

Compo Beach is located at 60 Compo Beach Road. It is a 29-acre park with an extensive sand beach on the shore of Long Island Sound. It borders the Saugatuck River. It is handicapped accessible and has bathroom facilities and lockers.
