The event will take place at Fire Headquarters, 121 Connecticut Ave.
The doors open at 4:30 p.m. and the movie “Home” will be shown at 5 p.m.
The floors of the firehouse are heated and organizers advise parents to bring blankets or towels on which to sit. Fire officials will share fire safety and winter preparedness materials, as well as popcorn and other refreshments.
The event is free but attendees are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy or gift to donate to families in need. Financial donations or gift cards also are welcome, especially for teens.
Kari Pesavento from the Human Services Council will be at the firehouse to acept donations and answer questions about the program.
Through Tuesday, Dec. 22, residents also can bring donations to any of the five fire stations in the city.

- Station 2: (Fire Headquarters): 121 Connecticut Ave.
- Station 3: 56 Van Zant St.
- Station 4: 180 Westport Ave.
- Station 5: 23 Meadow St.
Through their Children’s Bank Gift Drive, the Human Services Council fills approximately 3,000 individual holiday wishes for the children they serve. These children have been abused, neglected and/or are at-risk, many of whom live in foster care or group homes. For many of these children, this is the only gift they will receive.
“With the busy holiday schedules many families have this time of year, this is a great way for people to relax together, enjoy a fun movie and make a difference,” said Michele DeLuca, acting emergency management director.
"Home" tells the story of a loveable misfit from another planet who meets a teenage girl looking for her mom. The two become unlikely friends and learn the importance of home, family and friends along their journey. It is rated PG and everyone is welcome to attend.
