The Foundation is responsible for putting up the holiday lights in Darien during the holiday season and relies on donations in order to make the magic happen. In addition, the foundation awards scholarships to local deserving students. Nobu is a native of Tokyo, Japan and never thought she would become an artist. She graduated with a degree in psychology and went on to work for a major Japanese cosmetics company in marketing research.
She moved to Nashville, Tennessee where she fell in love with American Folk Art and started studying decorative painting, a style that makes heavy use of patterns and is painted mostly on wooden surfaces. She moved to Darien in 2003 where she has established her art business and her unique Modern Folk Art style painting scenes of the New England countryside and the towns of Darien, New Canaan and Rowayton.
She has designed the cover of the Darien Parks and Recreation Department brochure since 2008 and many local nonprofits have used her works to raise money.
