The event will focus on how communities can become more livable, as individuals plan for the baby boomer transition into older adulthood.

The featured speakers will be Lindsay Goldman, deputy director of Healthy Aging, New York Academy of Medicine and project director, Age-Friendly NYC; and Julia Evans Starr, former executive director of Connecticut’s Legislative Commission on Aging.

Tickets may be purchased by visiting www.SilverSource.org or by calling (203) 324-6584.

Between 2010 and 2040 the over-65 population is expected to grow by 57 percent in Connecticut, as projected by the Connecticut Data Collaborative and Connecticut Legislative Commission on Aging.

Baby Boomers began turning age 65 in 2011, and all of them will be this age or older in 2030. The impact of this phenomenon will have ripple effects on the labor force, the economy, charitable donations, healthcare and much more, according to a release from SilverSource.

Moreover, an increased dependency upon government and family assistance is expected, the release said.

Attendees will learn the challenges facing their communities as well as innovative solutions.

The event will be from 7 - 9:30 a.m.

Registration and networking will begin at 7 a.m., followed by a seated breakfast; speakers and Q&A will start at 7:30 a.m.

The first annual SilverSource Awards, recognizing those making a significant difference in the lives of older adults, and key findings from the SilverSource “Voice of the Community Survey” will also be presented.
