Aspetuck Land Trust Plans Hikes In Westport, Easton

WESTPORT, Conn. – The Aspectuck Land Trust will host two hikes and other outdoor activities in Westport and Easton on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The grand opening of the Children’s Interpretive Nature Trail at the Leonard Schine Preserve & Natural Playground in Westport will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. for children ages 4-10 years old. Parents are required to attend. 

Explore Aspetuck Land Trust’s new Interpretive nature trail and play at the refurbished natural playground featuring the famous Tower and new Giant Bird Nest. Music and live animal demonstrations will be available. The world renowned Catskill Mountain Music Man will sing and tell stories in the Natural Playground.

The Leonard Schine Preserve is located off Weston Road (Route 57 in Westport). Park on Glendinning Place (private road), which is located a tenth of a mile north of Lyons Plains Road (before West Branch Road Extension).

A honey bee walk for 6-10 year olds will take place at Trout Brook Valley Conservation Area in Easton from 10 a.m. to noon. Parents are required to attend. 

Join the Backyard Beekeepers to learn about the magical inner-workings of beehives. Children will open up hives and explore what takes place in a real beehive and will even look for the queen bee herself. The walk has a maximum capacity of 15 children. RSVP to dbrant@aspetucklandtrust.org.

Trout Brook Conservation Area is located at Route 58 (Black Rock Turnpike) north past Bluebird Restaurant to Freeborn Road. Turn left on Freeborn. When woods stop on left (first house lot), take the dirt road on the right through the woods to the orchard.
