“We had talked about it for some time,’’ Frank said. “We were looking for a house and drove by the property. It became a dream to reality in five minutes. We looked at the lay of the land, and we thought we could make it happen.”

The Brookfield couple went ahead with the plan to start their business in a building that had previously been a CrossFit space — and before that, a gas station. The couple poured nearly $30,000 into renovations.

“We liked it because between Danbury and Norwalk along Route 7 there are no other CrossFit gyms,’’ Frank said. “It’s an excellent location, right off Route 7 and at the intersection of Route 35. The opportunity presented itself, and we just decided to it. So far, it seems like it has been the right move.”

There are a few CrossFit outlets in Danbury, Rios said, but none south of Interstate 84 along Route 7. The other distinction clients will appreciate, Rios said, is the new equipment and renovations at the facility

“The facility is a lot nicer than a lot of CrossFit gyms,’’ Rios said. “The equipment is brand new, it’s not beaten up. We have specialty classes, instruction in mobility and weightlifting, and more class times than most other gyms.”

Fitness enthusiasts also get experienced coaching. Frank, 35, is an active duty Army reservist who is coming off a one-year hitch as the lead trainer for his unit in Africa. He has been doing CrossFit for seven years, but also has been doing body building and power lifting since he was 12 years old.

“The Army is an official CrossFit affiliate,’’ Rios said. “I’ve only officially been doing it for seven years with the military, but I’ve been in the Army for 13.5 years. A lot of our training includes principles similar to CrossFit.”

Nicole comes with her own dedication to CrossFit along with a background as a licensed massage therapist.

Frank said the reaction has been positive among clients. He also feels fortunate to have set up shop in Ridgefield, a community that has long been dedicated to fitness and wellness.

“It has been a lot of work to get started,’’ Frank said. “There is one book about starting your own business. We are finding out as we go, and taking the lessons we’ve learned and moved forward. If we get as big as I anticipate, we’re going to expand at some point and have a much larger space.”
