Severe Thunderstorm, Flash Flood Warnings Issued For Westport

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. -- The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch and a Flash Flood Watch for Fairfield County Friday afternoon.

A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m. Friday.

The Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m. while the Flash Flood Watch is in effect until 11 p.m.

Rain will overspread from west to east this afternoon into this evening, according to the National Weather Service. Parts of Fairfield County have already received up to an inch of rain Friday, and rainfall rates of 1 to 3 inches of rain per hour are possible.

Some storms could produce strong winds and heavy rain. The storms are expected to last into Friday night and taper off early Saturday morning.
