Pine trees fell on Vista Drive and Silver Hill Road, which caused brief power outages. “We made sure the road was plowed before United Illuminating got there and blocked off the roads until they arrived," Nagy said. "There was minimal damage.” The roads were blocked for a few hours Saturday, he said.
Easton police reported five motor vehicle accidents after the storm. Many cars, jeeps and a private driveway contractor were stuck on the roads, Nagy said.
Nagy's crew found plowing difficult during the height of the storm late Friday night. “White fluffy snow and heavy winds made it difficult to see," he said. "Drivers had to stop because they couldn’t see where they were going."
After the plowing was completed Sunday, Nagy’s fleet of nine large trucks and three dump trucks went to work clearing sight lines at intersections. “We’re trying to clear the big piles on the snowbanks that block views of the streets,” he said.
Residents should not leave snow on the streets when shoveling out their cars, Nagy said. “There’s a state law against it — creating a hazard on highways — and some were ticketed in Easton several years ago,” he said. “Push the snow into the property, not on the road.”
He also asked residents to clear fire hydrants of snow to assist the fire department. “Fire hydrants near houses may be hard to find, but there are flags on them,” he said. “Don’t leave them buried.”
