Blast Of Arctic Cold To Slam Westport For Weekend

FAIRFIELD COUNTY, Conn. — Bands of snow will give way to some of the coldest weather Fairfield County has had to deal with this winter as we head into Valentine's Day.

Residents of southern Connecticut will be bundling up as temperatures drop to zero or below this weekend.

High temperatures will be in the 30s through Thursday and Friday, but then it's time to bundle up. The daytime high temperatures will be in the teens on Saturday and Sunday during the day and plunge to zero or below by nighttime, according to the National Weather Service.

Lows for coastal Greenwich and Norwalk are forecast at -3 degrees, with -6 for Danbury and Weston and other inland areas.

And even colder, northwest winds could produce wind chills as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero at daybreak Sunday.

The National Weather Service warns that it will be so cold that hypothermia and frostbite are real threats.

They advise residents to wear layers, including hats and gloves; bring pets indoors; and to heat homes safely and only with indoor approved devices.

It will warm into the teens on Valentine’s Day, but drop again into the single digits overnight.

There is a chance of snow on Monday — the Presidents Day holiday.

A mixed bag of precipitation -- with rain, snow and freezing rain -- is likely Tuesday.
