A Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 6 p.m. Thursday for all of Connecticut, with up to 14 inches (or more?) expected to fall before the quick-moving storm finishes with us, the National Weather Service said.

The Weather Service reported that snow was falling at a rate of 1 to 3 inches per hour in parts of Fairfield County at about noon.

The storm has closed area businesses, municipal offices and schools, and is causing treacherous driving conditions. The state Department of Transportation reports that highways and roadways are snow-covered. Drivers are experiencing poor visibility from blowing and drifting snow.

Temperatures are in the 20s, with strong northerly winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts 30 to 35 mph.
