The interim superintendent is a 30 year insider. The union want him. If that is the best we can do, than we deserve what we get. Too bad for the kids. View Comment
Agree that we need to find a new Superintendent who wants Norwalk compared to Westport, Darien, and such, get us out of this rut we've been in for so long. Oh, and the new superintendent should also have sharp elbows, not too nice. View Comment
Dunningbrooks yes. The next superintendent needs to ignore the unions and their surly, uncooperative behavior, hold all employees responsible for their mess ups, support when right, lead. No, Majority of BoE did not support Marks during her first 1 1/2 years if you check votes, surly, uncooperative behavior there too. View Comment
Addonaise noticed something that I thought was strange too. A principal at a not-so-great school questioning the Superintendent in a public forum was unprofessional and not 'for the kids'. View Comment
lwitherspoon, point taken. FedUpParent is saying that even with current funding Norwalk schools can not be expected to do a good job for all their students. View Comment
Ms. Witkowsky wrote well. Public education costs too much and fails too many. Schools need to quit with the excuses and whining, do a better job or move on. View Comment
It is one thing to bring a 15 or 16 year old to one of these events as an example of participating in democracy but many of these parents and parent/teachers organizers are bringing their small children and using them as props. They are letting them feed into the frenzy. If they were presenting well-balanced facts as well as passion they would be much more effective. View Comment
Norwalk pays the highest teacher salaries in the State then if you add back in the value of working fewer days and fewer hours. And according to their leader, Bruce Mellion, they have the best benefits in the State and the nation. That's saying something. View Comment
Very self-serving article by Mr. Duff since his efforts in getting Norwalk more ECS funding over the years have been anemic at best. Leadership isn't just a photo op. View Comment
This is an immature and unbecoming action for a sitting common councilman, especially given that there is well-known animosity between him and the driver of the truck. Take your pail and shovel and camera back to the sandbox David, where it belongs, you can play with the big people when you grow up. View Comment

ballooning pension costs and defined benefit plans of public employees are killing taxpayers around the country and Norwalk is no exception. View Comment
The pension and defined benefit plans of public employees are killing taxpayers around the country and Norwalk is no exception. Old Timer sounds like someone who collects a pension and has a defined benefit plan. View Comment
It's not a $10 million dollar shortfall as the Budget for next year needed to be cut by more than $6 million since January. A $4 million shortfall was found this month, by the Norwalk schools own finance person who has been in the job 1/2 a year. The vast majority of the $4 million are costs associated with retired employees insurance costs. The pension and defined benefit plans of public employees are killing taxpayers around the country and Norwalk is no exception. View Comment
'Democratic leaders could not be reached for comment.' Bob Duff sure can be reached for comment when he wants to take credit for something. He and the other Norwalk Democratic leaders should have the courtesy of explaining the logic as to why the Education Committee members, both Democrats and Republicans, were not invited to the last minute discussion with teachers and State Education officials. $50 million dollars of tax paid money, much of that coming from Fairfield County and Norwalk, going to other districts so Norwalk can get back $500,000---- Norwalk legislators need to start screaming about it, that's just more of the same. View Comment
