The utility upgrades are needed for the upcoming Merritt Parkway project.
In this phase, Eversource Electric and Frontier Communications will upgrade their systems to accommodate the future bridge safety upgrades.
There is the possibility of a complete shutdown in both directions for 20 minutes from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.
Drivers can expect a one-lane closure of the Newtown Turnpike from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
