WESTON, Conn. Joe Lato, coach of the Weston High School football team, will host a town meeting Jan. 25 to discuss his plans for bringing youth football and cheerleading back to Weston.
Weston deserves to have its own dedicated youth program for football, just as we do with other sports, said Lato.
Designed for students in grades 1 through 8, the youth football league would be a feeder program for the high school Trojans. Weston youths now have to play in programs out of town that serve other high schools.
The program will focus on developing and mastering the fundamentals of the game, teamwork and safety, Lato said.
Having our own program will be more fun and instructive for kids as well as convenient for parents," Lato said. "It will also give me the opportunity to focus on safety right from the start, including teaching proper technique early on that can help prevent injury to ensuring that we have a coaching staff fully committed to and trained in the safe development of our youth, he said.
The meeting will be held at 7 p.m. at the Weston High School cafeteria, located at 115 School Road.
