WESTPORT, Conn. Sheila Stolarski of Weston and Westports Mike Laux won multiple races to lead a strong showing by the Westport Weston Family Y at the YMCA Masters National Championships last month in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
Other members on the team included Markely Rizzo, Pam Moss, Heather Friel, Colleen Brandon, Cathy Milton, Tracy Phillips, Lauren Finnegan and Bill Geoghegan.
Stolarski, competing in the womens 50-54 age group, broke meet records in winning the 50-, 100- and 200-yard backstroke and 100 freestyle. She also won the 100-yard individual medley and 50-yard freestyle.
Laux swam in the 70-74-year-old age group and won the 100 and 200 breaststroke and the 1,000 freestyle. He also took silver medals in the 50 backstroke and 200 individual medley.
Brandon also picked up medals in the 100 butterfly (fifth), 50 butterfly (seventh), 100 butterfly (seventh), 100 IM (seventh) and 50 back (eighth). She competed in the 50-54 age group.
Moss competed in the same age group and was second in the 200 freestyle, third in the 50 freestyle and fourth in the 100 freestyle. Markley won bronze in the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and Friel was eighth in the 100 and 200 breaststroke. Friel competed in the womens 45-49 age group, and Markley in the 50-54 age group.
Finnegan was second in the 200 IM, third in the 100 IM and 100 freestyle, and fourth in the 50 breaststroke and 100 butterfly in the 25-29 age group.
In relays, the womens 45+ team of Stolarski, Brandon, Phillips and Moss took second in the 200 and 400 freestyle, and the 200 medley relay finished second with Stolarski, Rizzo, Phillips and Moss.
Geoghean took a bronze medal in the 200 butterfly, fourth in the 400 IM, seventh in the 200 IM, eighth in the 50 BR, 10th in the 50 free, and 11th in the 1000 free.
The mixed 200 medley relay of Stolarski, Rizzo, Geoghean and Laux finished ninth, and the 200 freestyke relay of Phillips, Rizzo, Brandon and Laux took 12th in the 45+ age group.
