Russi, 16, finished seventh overall in 59:12.7. Coming off a strong season for the Staples track team, Russi posted the fastest time in the 5K, the last leg of the three-sport event. He ran 18:15, an average of 5:53 per mile. North Woods of Westport, a teammate of Russi's on the Staples swim team, finished second in the 14-19 age group.
Russi will attend the International Triathlon Union Junior Elite Cup in Monroe, Wash. He is training for the 2012 Junior Elite series and U.S. Sprint Nationals. He competes in triathlons in the Northeast for Bethel Cycle.
Russi will be co-captain of the Staples boys cross country team in the fall along with Henry Wynne and Sam Cohen. Russi also competed for the Staples swim team and will run in the steeplechase in the state championships Wednesday.
